The Computing Research Association Award for Outstanding Undergraduates The Computing Research Association is pleased to announce a new annual awards program to recognize undergraduate students who show exceptional promise in an area of importance to computing research. We are also delighted to acknowledge the support of the Microsoft Corporation as the sponsor of the first year of this program. A cash prize of $1,000 will be awarded to two undergraduate students, one female and one male, who are majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent program. In addition, a number of other outstanding candidates will receive certificates of honorable mention. The awards will be presented at a major computing research conference. The two first prize winners will receive funds to assist in their travel to the conference. We hope that the home departments will provide similar assistance to the other winners. Nominations for this award must be submitted by the candidate's department chair by January 15, 1995. Each department may nominate at most one female and one male candidate each year. Further details on the nomination procedure and the criteria to be used for selection of winners may be found below. This year's selection committee consists of Ruzena Bajcsy of the University of Pennsylvania, Daniel Huttenlocher of Cornell University, and Maria Klawe of the University of British Columbia (chair). Nomination procedure: A nomination package consists of the following items: 1) Undergraduate Award nomination form (included at the end of this announcement) 2) Resume of nominee (maximum of 2 pages) 3) Transcript of academic record of nominee 4) Nomination letter by chair of department (maximum of 2 pages) 5) Letter of support from one other supporting nominator (maximum of 2 pages) 6) One page description of student's research or other achievement Four copies of the nomination package should be sent to: CRA Undergraduate Award Competition Undergraduate Award Competition Computing Research Association 1875 Connecticut Ave. NW Washington DC 20009 In order to be considered for the competition, the complete nomination must arrive by January 15, 1995. Department chairs should ensure that only one nomination is submitted in each category (female student, male student) since multiple nominations from the same department for a single category will not be considered.
