Abstract:
An optical field consists of a data volume of modal, spectral, polarization
and coherence data. Optical sensors measure projections of the data volume.
Optical sensors are increasingly adapted to task-specific projections for diffuse
source spectroscopy, target tracking, high depth-of-field or multidimensional
imaging. This talk considers modal basis states for describing optical fields
and discusses methodologies for high fidelity and data efficient sampling. Applications
to tissue spectroscopy and human or robotic tracking are used to illustrate
the core ideas.
