Title: Linear orders in o-minimal structures with an application to the theory of utility and preference in economics
When/where: Tuesday, April 29th, 4:15 p.m., AKW 200.
Abstract:
The talk begins with a brief introduction for a general audience to o-minimal structures expanding the order field of real numbers. Following this, we describe some work with A. Onshuus, which in particular provides an analysis of linear orders definable (in the sense of first-order logic) in o-minimal structures.
This analysis appears to have an interesting application in mathematical economics to the theory of utility and preference. This last is joint work with T. Brihaye, C. Michaux, and Onshuus.
