Big Data Science: A Symposium in Honor of Martin Schultz

SCHEDULE

In the spring of 2011 Prof. Martin Schultz retired after a long and illustrious career in the Department of Computer Science at Yale. This event was a symposium in honor of Martin and his contributions. Martin continues to be active in the Department, now as Professor Emeritus and Research Professor. Rather than having a retrospective event, the symposium focused on Martin’s current interest -- the future of “big data” analysis in science. The symposium took place on October 26, 2012 for the entire day (9:00 am - 6:00 pm) at the Davies Auditorium in The Becton Engineering and Applied Science Center on the Yale campus.

We had nine outstanding speakers to present talks on changing nature of scientific computation and how it focuses more on the analysis and management of large datasets. Links to their presentations are available by clicking on the SCHEDULE link above.

We also had a poster session featuring scientific research involving big data – from simulation and from measurement.

Thanks to everyone who attended, presented and helped set up this event!
