PIPELink Summer Research Program: Deadline 3/15/95 Are you a female college sophomore or junior? Are you interested in a rewarding summer research experience with a chance to share your expertise with high school students? Then, you are invited to apply for the PipeLINK Summer Research Program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute! The PipeLINK Summer Research Program is one component of the PipeLINK program, whose goal is to link women across several stages of the computer science pipeline, from high school through the Ph.D. A primary goal of the summer program is to provide opportunities for links between high school and undergraduate students, and between undergraduate and graduate students and faculty. Specifically, as a PipeLINK summer participant, you will be assigned to a research project mentored by a woman Rensselaer professor or graduate student, either in the field of computer science and engineering, or in the application of computing to another scientific or engineering field. You will spend 10 weeks at Rensselaer. During the first 8 weeks, you will spend time on your research, meet individually with your research mentor, and get together with other participants (both undergraduate and graduate) for informal events and social activities. The last two weeks of the research program will be concurrent with a two-week program for high school girls. You will be invited to their programs, including lectures, demonstrations, and plant and laboratory visits. In particular, you will be a "lab aide," helping individual high school students in hands-on activities designed to introduce them to various aspects of computer science. Finally, you will present the results of your summer research at a "mini-conference," attended by all high school and college participants, as well as Rensselaer faculty and local industrial contacts. Your stipend for the summer will be $3000. We will help arrange local housing if needed. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is in Troy, New York, about 2 1/2 hours north of New York City; about 3 hours west of Boston, and about 4 hours south of Montreal. We are easily reachable by air, rail, or automobile. More information about Rensselaer is available via the web at URL "http://www.rpi.edu". If this opportunity sounds exciting to you, please apply!
