Computers Can be Fun! " Is a 3 session course (two hour lecture with some hands-on per session). It is intended for the computer novice, age 55 and over, who would like to learn computing and word processing skills and has no computer background whatsoever. Students will learn computer fundamentals, with a decided emphasis on having fun with the computer."Computers Can Be Fun!" should provide the graduate with sufficient background to take the "Introduction to Computers" course.
"Computers Can Be Fun!" costs $20 and may be taken prior to joining SeniorNet
Introduction to Computers
"
Introduction to Computers" class provides a basic understanding of what computers can do. Because most beginners indicate a strong interest in understanding the capabilities of word processing, databases and spreadsheets, the "Introduction to Computers" class includes an overview of each of these tools. In addition, the class provides insight into the capabilities of the Internet. There are eight modules that comprise the class and each module builds upon the lessons taught in the previous modules. Practice time is also provided to reinforce the lessons learned. The class also provides exercises in hand-eye coordination and develops the students skills in using a "mouse"."Introduction to Computers" costs $40 and is available only to SeniorNet members
Word Processing
The objective of the
"Word Processing" class is to provide the skills necessary for the student to create documents of modest complexity. Students will learn how to enter text from the keyboard and apply formatting techniques to achieve a desired look or style. Graphic images such as photographs can be included with the text to create a range of documents from greeting cards to newsletters. "Word Processing" is also intended to help participants grow in their ability to enjoy the activity of writing by using the computer as a powerful productivity tool."Word Processing" costs $40 and is available only to SeniorNet members
