COMPUTER SCIENCE REENTRY PROGRAM

The Computer Science Reentry Program at UC Berkeley responds to a national need to increase the number and diversity of computer scientists with advanced education. The program prepares high-potential students for graduate study in computer science. It is aimed at women and underrepresented minorities with bachelor's degrees in other fields.

The program offers reduced tuition, free tutoring, seminars, prep sessions and countless opportunities to interact with computer science faculty and graduate students. The program is small and therefore lends itself to group study. Students admitted to the program are expected to complete six to seven rigorous technical courses in math and computer science. Each student is required to take at least one, and at most three technical courses during the semester. Most students in the program work part-time or have other commitments outside of the academic arena. Therefore, most students take up to four semesters to complete the program.

The program enrolled its first students in January 1984. Reentry Program alumni are now enrolled in graduate programs in a number of highly ranked universities.

The Computer Science Reentry Program is sponsored by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the College of Engineering. The College pays approximately two thirds of the required budget; the other third is paid by corporate donations. Students pay reduced tuition and additional incidental fees as required by the university.

The University of California at Berkeley is a public institution with an annual student population of 31,000. Berkeley's College of Engineering is regarded as one of the best in the nation, and its computer science graduate program is ranked among the top five in the country. Reentry Program students have the opportunity to study with faculty of international reputation in an unusually stimulating academic environment.

Students also benefit from the exciting business environment in the San Francisco Bay Area, a prime center for research and development in computer science.

Deadlines for application are October 1, for Spring admission, and May 1 for Fall admission.
